Halton Region Requests a Total Cedar Ban

Conservation Halton has implemented a Top Rope Ban in the Mount Nemo Conservation Area. In the Rattlesnake Point and Kelso areas, a cedar ban and tree-wrapping program has been put in place. This means that cedars are not to be used as anchors. Other trees are to be wrapped to protect the bark of the tree.

This is the first step in a two-year program to get all ropes off of the trees. More information and new guidelines will be made available through handouts at all gatehouses, on our Web site at

www.conservationhalton.on.ca and on the Alpine Club of Canada, Toronto Section, (www.climbers/org) Web site.

Conservation Halton will not be closing any of our existing climbing areas. Neither will we be opening any new climbing areas.

Our intent is to protect the unique natural vegetative communities and features that exist on the Niagara Escarpment. Your co-operation is appreciated.
